The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species: The IUCN Red List not only collects the world’s species and assesses their status. It also contains additional information such as range, population size, ecology, and conservation, making it a powerful tool for governments, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), researchers, and anyone else interested in the world’s biodiversity. There are currently more than 135 000 species on the Red List. Among the most endangered species are reef-building corals, 33% of which are threatened with extinction.
